"Dancing the Culm" 20th August 2016  10am -12pm and 2pm - 4pm

Leran how to produce "culm balls" from a mix of earth and waste anthracite from an historic local coal mining operation.

Culm balls were an essential source of heating and cooking in the last century.

We’ll be discussing and demonstrating the tradition of gathering materials to make culm balls.

Mr Michael Conry, author of “Dancing the Culm” will be giving a presentation and will be on hand to answer questions about this fascinating tradition.

Tom Pollard and Matt Walsh of Premier Masons ( will be hosting the event. This will be a practical event and we’d encourage you to get stuck in and have a go at making your own culm.

The event is being run in association with Earth Building UK and Ireland
